The Cyber Cafe Coffee Shop was introduced in October 2004.  In support of the ongoing of funds being dispersed the Cyber Cafe Board came up with the idea of utilizing the facility when the teenagers were not.  This also gave the Cyber Cafe an opportunity to hire teenage employees to help run the business.  Benefiting both the Cyber Cafe and the employment of teenagers in the area.  By purchasing a beverage at the Coffee Shop you not only support the teenagers, but get to use our High Speed Internet for free.

Our Promise
Fresh, good-tasting coffee comes from not only the beans used but quality of water, since coffee is made up of more than 98 percent water.  At the Cyber Cafe our water filter purifies the water at a higher quality than purchased water.  Mineral content and brewing temperature will affect the taste as well.  Ideal brewing temperature is between 195 and 205 degrees F.  Type of filters are also important.  Paper filters are known to produce the cleanest cup of coffee without removing major flavor components and eliminate most of the fatty oils that can raise your cholesterol.  At the Cyber Cafe we follow these principles and techniques to ensure the best cup of coffee to you the consumer.

Benefits of Cyber Coffee
Everyday, coffee is drunk all over the world by both the young and old.  But like many other things we enjoy in our everyday life, we sometimes question whether it is good for us.  From the thousands of studies done on coffee, it is becoming increasingly clear, that drinking a moderate amount, up to 4-5 cups a day, is not harmful and may even have health benefits.  Coffee is a complex liquid and its effects are still being studied, but to help dispel a few of the misconceptions, here are the latest findings on some of the less well-known health related benefits of drinking coffee:

  • Helps prevent gallstones and symptomatic disease in men

  • Contains caffeine-related compounds that can alleviate the symptoms of asthma in some cases

  • Can increase alertness and prolong waking hours

  • May improve short-term recall

  • May reduce the effectiveness of certain migraine drugs

  • May postpone muscle fatigue and thus enhance athletic performance and endurance

  • May protect against free radical damage to tissues-one study found that coffee has more antioxidant activity than red wine, green or black tea, and orange juice

  • A cup of coffee can help in the performance of tasks requiring sustained attention, even during low alertness situations such as after lunch, at night or when a person has a cold

  • A Harvard study found that men who drank more than 6 cups of caffeinated coffee a day cut their risk of diabetes by more than half, while women reduced their risk by 30% (Caffeine-free coffee doesn't seem to have the same effect)

  • Caffeine improves attention and reasoning, especially when you're sleeping

***Bottomline: Drinking Cyber Coffee Improves Everyday Life***

History of Coffee
The legend states that a goat herder named Kaldi observed his goats acting pretty frisky after eating some coffee berries from a bush in Ethiopia.  Of course he had to discover for himself what was happening to his goats.  He discovered that indeed these berries did give him a bit of renewed energy.  The good word spread very quickly around the region.  Monks who heard about this amazing fruit would dry the berries for transportation to their monasteries.  They than would reconstitute them in water, eat the fruit and drink the liquid.  This provided them stimulation for a more awakened time of prayer.  After coffee made its way to Turkey, the beans were for the first time roasted over open fire.  These roasted beans were crushed and boiled in water.  This created a crude version of brewed coffee for the first time.  Coffee arrived on the European continent via Venetian trade merchants.  Coffee fell under heavy criticism from the Church and many felt it should be banned.  To their surprise, the Pope, being a coffee drinker himself, blessed the beverage instead.  Coffee houses rapidly spread throughout Europe and became centers for intellectual exchanges, drawing many great minds of the times who used coffee as the national drink in protest of the excessive tax on tea levied by the British crown.  Espresso's origin is from France when a crude espresso machine was invented in 1822.  The Italians perfected and first manufactured the espresso machine.  Espresso has become such an integral part of life in Italy that there are presently over 200,000 espresso bars.  Today the coffee industry employes more than 20 million people and is the second most traded commodity in the world behind petroleum.  The U.S. population consumes over 500 million cups of coffee every day.  In Brazil alone, over 5 million people are employed in the harvesting of over 3 billion coffee trees.  Sales in the U.S. alone have reached the multi-billion level and are expected to continue to rise on an annual basis.  Thus forming the Wadena Cyber Cafe Coffee Shop.
